July 4th Parade

The 4th of July is one of the most fun-filled holidays on the island, with many events enjoyed by residents, renters, and visitors alike. LICA is proud to sponsor the July 4th Parade on Island Ave. Every year, a theme is chosen for parade floats, and Long Island families and friends never fail to deliver on creative, clever, and funny floats year after year.

Linda Papkee Community Picnic & Sandcastle Contest

An annual summer event, the Linda Papkee Community Picnic is held on Fowler's Beach. LICA provides hot dogs and hamburgers, and islanders generously bring potluck side dishes, desserts, and drinks. The LICA-owned Fowler's Beach hosts the sandcastle contest in the morning, and LICA is proud to sponsor prizes for the winners.

Lobster Boat Races

A favorite annual tradition, the lobster boat races showcase the speed and power of working vessels in the Long Island fleet. Having hosted and organized our own races for decades, Long Island joined the official Maine Lobster Boat Races last year. The Long Island races are held in the afternoon, allowing boats from Downeast to steam down that morning and also allow local boats to haul pots to avoid losing a day of work.

It's a full day of fun with food, music, diesel power and hometown pride.

House & Garden Tour

Long Island's natural beauty is a source of pride, but the island is also home to a number of stunning homes. From modern waterfront homes, to classic New England cottages and bungalows, our residents take pride in their properties and gardens. This event tours the gardens and homes of up to

8 properties, and concludes with a catered luncheon.

Casco Bay Lines Appreciation Day

LICA hosts an annual "Casco Bay Lines Appreciation Day," where every boat that comes to the island is greeted by volunteers bearing tokens of gratitude for the captains and crew members. As islanders who rely on the ferry to commute to our jobs and families, we enjoy taking a day to give our thanks to the captains and crew who get us safely to town and back.

VFW Fair

A day of games and prizes, the VFW Fair is a newer event, but one that draws a significant crowd of islanders.

Tiny Murphy Civic Award

Tiny Murphy exemplified the qualities of a good public citizen, and because it was his habit to see that citizens of the Town of Long Island were publicly recognized for their contributions, the Long Island Civic Association has established a Civic Award in his memory. The award is presented annually in recognition and appreciation of the recipient's valuable contributions to the Long Island community.

LICA is currently accepting applications for the Tiny Murphy Civic Award here
