Fowler’s Beach Rules
& Campfire Permits
The Long Island Civic Association owns Fowler’s Beach. We are determined that all island people will be able to continue to enjoy it in its natural state. To keep the beach and dune area free of any misuse, the Long Island Civic Association has adopted the following rules:

THESE ACTIVITIES ARE PERMITTED ON FOWLER’S BEACH:

-
Public access to and enjoyment of the beach from sunrise to 11 P.M.
-
Parking on the inland side (not the ocean side) of Jerry Point Lane (not to destroy the vegetation and grasses).
-
Maintenance of the footpath to the cottage now on the beach.
-
Temporary storage of tender boats such as dinghies, prams, and rowboats (none of which should exceed 12 feet in length) on the surface of the beach (not the dunes).
-
Campfires: A permission signed by a member of the LICA board must be presented to the Long Island Fire Department before a fire permit can be issued—just so there will be an identified person responsible for clean-up and safety.
THESE ACTIVITIES ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THE FOWLER’S BEACH PROPERTY (WHICH INCLUDES THE WETLANDS GOING INLAND FROM THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 270 FEET, THE DUNES AND THE BEACH FACE):

-
No cutting, pruning, destruction, or removal of trees, plants, grasses, or other vegetation.
-
No buildings, trailers, mobile homes, structures of any kind, or fences, except to mark the boundaries and snow fences to aid in dune restoration.
-
No filling, excavating, or dumping of debris or trash.
-
No storage of any tender boats whose length exceeds 12 feet. No storage of any other watercraft of any size. No storage of fishing gear.
-
No camping, docks, or waste disposal.
-
No use of motorized vehicles except on public roadways.
-
No commercial or private group may use Fowler’s Beach for any money-making purpose.
-
No consumption of alcohol or use of illegal substances.

POLICY ENFORCEMENT:

Any violations will be reported to the 911 police phone number with an official filing of a complaint.

In order to protect this valuable island property and beach for the use and enjoyment of all our island citizens, it is the responsibility of the Long Island Civic Association to see that these rules are respected and enforced. We have made this commitment to the people of Long Island, and by a conservation easement to the Oceanside Conservation Trust, which inspects the property annually to ensure we are doing our job.

Leave no trace, including personal items overnight.
